AHS: Cult – Full Season Trailer

The first full trailer for ‘American Horror Story: Cult’ has landed.

Returning to our screens on September 5th on FX, the first full trailer shows us the plot and themes, which for Season 7, look to have a large political agenda, and at its roots, the U.S Presidential race in 2016, between now President Donald Trump, and former first lady, Hillary Clinton.

To the clear dismay and horror of Sarah Paulson’s character Ally, upon getting the news through the television that Donald Trump had won the election, she lets out a bloodcurdling scream.
Her reaction, I think i’m right in saying, is indicative to what whole world was feeling, and I can imagine she was feeling at the very moment the announcement was made.
The polar opposite can be said for Evan Peter’s character Kai. In the trailer, he lets out a victorious roar, and then proceeds to grind up against the television.
He is the spitting image of Kurt Cobain in these photos, and comes across in the trailers as a very rebellious character.

We then see Ally with her therapist, Dr Vincent played by Cheyenne Jackson, we hear questions being asked of her about a recurring phobia, which from the looks of things, is related to clowns.

During this sequence, we’re introduced to AHS newcomer Billie Lourd (Scream Queens), who plays the part of Winter Anderson.
ahs-cult-billie-lourd
It would appear that winter becomes the child minder of Ally’s (Sarah Paulson) child, and is intent on playing on her fears…
Bringing us to the show re-uniting with character Twisty the Clown. He only returns in the form of a comic book character and an action figure, but as if season 7 really needs more creepy clowns?
Another telling part of the trailer is that we see Kai (Even Peters) and Winter making a sort of pact or pinkie promise. There plan may be to join forces and drive Ally to the brink.

As well as Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Cheyenne Jackson returning, there was a picture posted on Ryan Murphy’s Instagram account of the following:

That’s right folks, Emma Roberts will be once again featuring in American Horror Story. Not too much is known about her character at this moment in time.
We know that the show runners Murphy and Phalchuk like to play their cards close to their chests and save a few surprises, so we will have to wait and see what they have in store for Emma Roberts, and any other returning cast members we don’t know about.

Teasers

In what will be the 7th season of the hugely popular anthology series, there has of course, been loads of teaser trailers to entice us, and gear us up for the forthcoming rampage, and carnage of the new season. In total there were 30 teaser trailers produced.
Unlike the 6th season, the teaser trailers are relevant to the upcoming season.

6 Horror Films To Get Excited About (August-October 2017)

This year (2017) is crushing it with brilliant horror film releases already this year, and its not done with us yet. We thankfully haven’t had as much celebrity death in 2017, but we’ve had lots of awesome, juicy horror goodness to sink our teeth into.
Its such an exciting year to be a fan of horror films, and each month that goes by, it feels like things just keep getting better, and better, and the next 3 months are no exception.

Here are a hand picked selection of some of the upcoming films that we can’t wait see in theatres.

1. Annabelle Creation

Synopsis: Several years after the tragic death of their little daughter, a doll maker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from an orphanage into their home.
Soon after, they become the target of the doll maker’s possessed creation.
Starring: Stephanie Sigman, Mirana Otto, Lulu Wilson
Release Date UK:
August 11th
Release Date US:
August 15th 2017
The Scream Source Says: Having already managed to catch this film, its a marked improvement on the first effort from 2014. Scary, imaginative and plenty happening to keep you occupied. A definite must see for all fans of The Conjuring universe.

2. IT

Synopsis: In Derry, Maine, seven friends come face-to-face with a shape shifter, who takes the form of an evil clown who targets children.
Starring: Bill Skarsgård, Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Sopia Lillis, Nicholas Hamilton, Megan Charpentier, Owen Teague, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Jeremy Ray Taylor
Release Date UK: September 8th, 2017
Release Date US:
September 8th, 2017
The Scream Source Says: Being a huge fan of the original film adaptation from 1990, and the record of remakes in the modern era of horror, you can understand my cynicism and outrage when it was announced that a remake was being put into production. That said, the trailer looks terrifying. Bill Skarsgård who plays the role of Pennywise, looks to be a brilliant piece of casting. He stars in the super successful Hemlock Grove, so is no stranger to the horror genre. Finn Wolfhard from the equally popular Stranger Things also features.

 3. Mother

Synopsis: A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.
Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer
Release Date UK: September 15th, 2017
Release Date US:
September 15th, 2017
The Scream Source Says: This film looks a dark and disturbing as it does complex and intriguing. Its a welcome back to genre for Jennifer Lawrence and Michelle Pfeiffer, in what really could be a dark horse. In amongst heavyweights like Alien Covenant, IT, Leatherface, and Jigsaw, may be one of 2017’s unsung heroes.

4. Flatliners

Synopsis: Five medical students, obsessed by what lies beyond the confines of life, embark on a daring experiment. By stopping their hearts for short periods, each triggers a near-death experience, giving them a firsthand account of the afterlife.
Starring: Ellen Page, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, Diego Luna, Kiersey Clemons, Kiefer Sutherland, Beau Mirchoff, Steve Byers
Release Date UK: September 29th, 2017
Release Date US:
September 29th, 2017
The Scream Source Says: As with IT, i’m a fan of the original, and had a spit the coffee moment’ when I heard this was being remade. I’ve since read in numerous sources that this is supposed to be sequel. The cast is really good, with Ellen Page coming back to the fold for the first time since 2005’s Hard Candy, and Nina Dobrev who starred in the very brilliant The Final Girls also stars. They line up next to horror film royalty in Kiefer Sutherland, who returns to Flatliners after starring in the 1990 original.

5. Leatherface

Synopsis: A teenage Leatherface escapes from a mental hospital with three other inmates, kidnapping a young nurse and taking her on a road trip from hell while being pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge.
Starring: Finn Jones, Stephen Dorff, Lili Taylor, James Bloor, Nicole Andrews, Vanessa Grasse, Sam Coleman
Release Date UK: August 25th 2017 (Horror Channel FrightFest)
Release Date US:
 September 21st 2017 (TV premiere)
The Scream Source Says: The mention of another film to do with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre completely baffled me. After the god awful reboots, I really hoped we would be left to live with the happy memories of Tobe Hooper’s and Gunnar Hansen’s 1974, blood soaked master piece. That was then though, and on the strength of the trailer for Leatherface, this looks like a film that the franchise both needs and deserves and really hope it delivers where it counts, when it counts.

6. Jigsaw

Synopsis: Bodies are turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise. As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one man: John Kramer. But how can this be? The man known as Jigsaw has been dead for over a decade.
Starring:  Laura Vandervoort, Tobin Bell, Brittany Allen, Clé Bennett
Release Date UK: October 27th, 2017
Release Date US: October 27th, 2017
The Scream Source Says: Jigsaw will be the 8th instalment in the hugely successful Saw franchise, which began all the way back in 2004. The 7th, and what was billed as the final film went off the rails somewhat compared to the previous films and for some, was a film too far. Something that is loved about the films is of course the traps, which in the trailer look pretty decent so the hope is that the story will back them up, and be ambitious be feasible.

Alien Covenant: The Crossing (Prologue)

The lead up to Alien: Covenant has been one of excitement and intrigue.
We have been blessed with the release numerous viral videos, in what has been an excellent campaign for the film.
The most interesting of these videos, are those relating to Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, and David, with the burning questions being ‘What happened to the pair after Prometheus, and what part will they play in Alien: Covenant’?

Part 1: Take Me Home

NElvP6DrMQHWpr_2_b
On instagram, a short video was released called ‘Take Me Home’. Its set to the soundtrack of the classic John Denver song, ‘Country Roads’, and when used in this context, creates a really eerie atmosphere.

We see the Covenant crew entering the juggernaut ship that was piloted by Dr. Shaw and David when leaving LV-223, and then see a holographic projection, similar to those we saw throughout Prometheus, that told us a short part of a story, or something significant that happened, similar to a black box recorder on an aeroplane.
pl_prometheus_f.jpg
We can clearly see. that sitting at the console is Dr. Shaw. She’s sitting humming ‘Country Roads’ and by the looks of things, navigating the ship. Are we to presume she is alive? We see one of the crew members finding the dog tags of Elizabeth Shaw. This makes me think she may have met a grim end.

Part 2: The Crossing (Prologue)
maxresdefault

On Alien Day, Ridley Scott introduced an exclusive piece of footage called ‘The Crossing’.
This is a key piece of footage, that completes the link between Prometheus and Covenant, and shows exactly what happened after Dr. Shaw and David took off.

This is a really telling insight into how the relationship between the two protagonists has developed and become one of trust and compassion.
We see Dr. Shaw putting David back together and helping David with navigating the ship, and then we see David putting Dr. Shaw into hyper sleep, while they make their journey to the home planet of the engineers. Could this mean Dr. Shaw is actually alive, and is having a very long sleep? Or just that David is keeping his next testing specimen ‘Fresh’?
Black-Goo-on-Engineer-Homeworld-in-Alien-Covenant-600x387
Everything appears in good nature, but upon arrival to the engineers home world, as we can see in the picture above, David opens the cargo hold and drops the 1000’s of canisters of black goo down on the engineers.
When David is about to drop the black goo, he says…

“Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!”.

This is such a powerful line, and gains more power and meaning, when read in the context of the full poem that the great line comes from.
Screenshot 2017-05-04 at 19.21.27
The poem is called ‘Ozymandias’
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

Ghosts Of Darkness Is Coming

Written & Directed By: David Ryan Keith
Produced By: Lorraine Keith
Scream Source Score: 8/10

It’s our pleasure, to introduce you, to the latest horror film, from Clear Focus Movies.

Official Selection Of The Bram Stoker International Film Festival 2016

Ghosts of Darkness, is the third feature film, to come from Scottish Writer/Director,
David Ryan Keith.

director_david_keith

David Ryan Keith (Writer/Director)

The two previous efforts, were 2011’s zom/com spectacular, Attack Of The Herbals, and 2014’s blood thirsty, ‘teens in the woods’ slasher, ‘The Redwood Massacre’.
Both of the films are unique, and clever in their storytelling, and choice of sub genre.
They follow completely different paths, instead of sticking to one type of film, and regurgitating the same film, with a different name and location.
To that end, Ghosts of Darkness, certainly follows in the footsteps of its predecessors. But with this one? Things have been kicked up to a whole new level.

“All These Deaths, Took Place In This House?” – Jack Donovan

Filmed in Scotland, Ghosts Of Darkness is the first feature film, that the talented Scottish director has made in the paranormal genre.
The film secured worldwide distribution, before a scene had even been filmed, with American distribution company Uncork’d Entertainment in August of 2015.
The film will make its world premier at the acclaimed ‘Bram Stoker International Film Festival’, at the end of October 2016, and will be released on DVD/VOD, in March 2017.

Jonathon Blazer

“Ghosts are easy to move on. They’re my bread and butter. But a Demon? That’s a completely different story altogether” – Jonathan Blazer.

Ghosts Of Darkness Synopsis:

On the strength of their reputations, slick American, paranormal investigator, Jack Donovan (Michael Koltes), and eccentric Englishman and psychic, Jonathan Blazer (Paul Flannery), are paired together in a large manor house, with a dark and shady past, in the hope of solving a mystery, thats had people guessing since the 1800’s.
god_promoshot71To do this, Donovan and Blazer, will be locked in the house, for three nights, to record their findings, and prove once and for all, whether there are secrets lurking within the walls. Shortly after starting their investigation, they discover to their horror, that are numerous, very real paranormal entities, that mean to do them harm.
The two men must put their differences aside, if they want to survive their stay, at Richmond Manor.

The Investigators

Jonathan Blazer

Jonathan Blazer, is a powerful psychic, whose main tools for his work are a spirit board, and a book of demonology. He is for sure, the comic relief. paul_flannery_He’s a well spoken gentlemen, who oozes class. He brings a Richard E. Grant-esque performance, in the style of Withnail, from the cult 70’s classic, ‘Withnail and I’. His quick wit allows, albeit momentarily, for a breather from the overbearing job at hand. But when it comes to the crunch, you see the other, more serious side of Blazer, even the fearful and slightly vulnerable side of Blazer. As things start to go from bad to worse for the two, and being the more experienced, at handling these types of cases in these types of cases, he has to be serious, and make the executive decision as to how things are going to be done. But even he knows he is out of his depth, and as time grows shorter, the stakes get higher, in the race to get out of Richmond Manor alive.

Jack Donovan

Jack Donovan, is a firm, complex character, who will not be taken for a fool. He is an extremely talented Paranormal investigator, who by trade, is the best at what he does, at exposing frauds, who are in his own words “just trying to make a quick buck”. michael_koltes_
To do his work, he has lots of expensive gadgets, such as motion sensors, temperature sensors, EMF readers, fancy cameras, and much more, which Blazer finds not only amusing, but pointless.
Donovans story, is one of heartbreak and loss, and really, he is like a big ball of elastic bands. As he unravels, you come to understand why he has so much distrust and contempt towards Blazer.
When he realises, that this job, is not just exposing some fraud, and is like nothing he’s ever experienced before, he learns to believe in, and trust his fellow protagonist. He realises he can integrate his methods, with Blazers methods, and forms a real working and personal respect and friendship for him.

The Practical Effects

The practical effects are second to none, as with the two previous films, from this talented Scottish writer/director.

demon7The special effects and makeup team that worked on this film, need to take a bow. The ghosts and demons look genuinely threatening and scary. The eyes are the window to the soul, and firstly with the ghosts, the big black eyes show us an element of pure evil and bad intentions. The blackness in the eyes, reminded somewhat, of a film called ‘Grave Encounters’, which was terrifying, so this really worked well.  The skin, as you would expect for a ghost is very pale, almost grey, and is made up to look dead and scarred. Its been done very effectively.

The demons look incredible. god_promoshot5
They really are the epitome of evil. If you had one of these walking towards you in a dark house in the middle of the night, you’d have a heart attack.
Its hard to imagine that there is actually a person under that make up and that its not something straight from the necronomicon. The time and  detail that has gone into that has gone into creating the gaping wounds and decomposing flesh is astonishing.

Ghosts of Darkness Is A Fantastic Film.
From Start To Finish You’ll Be Gripped By It.

Its a celebration and a triumph, for Scottish indie-horror, film making.
Do not make the mistake, of thinking this is yet another film, thats riding the coattails of paranormal activity. This is a film that stands on it its own two feet.
Creating a film about two men, running round a house chasing ghosts, is by no means an easy thing to do. It could have been so easy for things to have gone stale and fallen flat, but the dialogue, which is slick, witty and funny, and the moments of major intrigue, and non stop action, does not let the film fall into that trap. The pacing of the film is great. Its not a film you have to be patient with,  and then only delivers the frights at the end. Its gripping the whole way through. To begin with, ghosts tease the pair, with noises, apparitions, and poltergeist activity.
Upon the two protagonists being introduced, and are left to go about their work, Blazer is looking for something to drink, and Donovan is convinced, that being there, is nothing more than a publicity stunt.
Little do they know at this point, that within the walls of Richmond Manor, there really are things that go bump in the night.
Things then go from bad to worse, as demons enter the fold, and start to prey on their inner most feelings, and then turn to acts of physical harm, with the use of weapons, extreme violence, and much worse.
The best part of the film, is the relationship between Blazer and Donovan. The pair, seemed so at ease, not only with each other, but in the roles they were portraying. Its obvious there was a good camaraderie between Koltes and Flannery, because although their characters are very chalk and cheese, they worked so well together. You are taken on a wonderful journey with the pair, from them butting heads, to forming a mutual respect, and most important of all, a real friendship.

In closing, this is not a film you’re going to want to miss. You’ll be sorry that you did. Be sure to  be ready for the release of ‘Ghosts of Darkness’ in March 2017.

As always, we’ll keep you up to date with any further info as we get it.

American Horror Story: Season 6 Teasers – Part 1-10

September 14th, on FOX, will see the return, of American Horror Story, for it’s 6th season. Every fan of the show, is dying to know what the theme of this season will be.
The AHS creators, and the big brass at the FOX network, want to keep season 6 a total secret, until the season premier.
Teaser trailers, have been released over the days and weeks leading up to the big night, but only 1 of the teasers is the real one. Below are the teaser trailers, Parts 1 to 10.
So here is my thoughts on what I like, love, think… meh, or don’t like, hate

1. Lullaby

This teaser trailer immediately makes me think of the baby in season one’s ‘Murder House’. If the rumour is true, that all the seasons will link up in season 6, could this be the link that brings it all together?
Verdict: Intriguing

2. What’s Cooking

I don’t know about you, but this 2nd teaser trailer, called ‘Whats Cooking’, makes me think of ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’. That would be interesting, and very dark avenue to go down. LeatherFace done AHS Style? Imagine the possibilities!!!
Verdict: Like

3. Sunset Stroll

The 3rd entry, titled Sunset Stroll, really had me stumped! Family going for a walk… Looks like rough terrain. The desert maybe? Nuclear waste, or a radioactive spill has made them into crazy cannibals? Zombies perhaps? The whole zombie thing, would be a brave move, with the likes of ‘The Walking Dead’ to compete with.
Verdict: No Thanks

4. Milli Crossing

GaGa much? This  looks like ‘The Countess’ from season 5’s ‘Hotel’. We already saw a major link to season 1, when a pregnant countess, went to the murder house, to get an abortion, and kept baby, to the dismay of James Patrick March. So if chosen, could this be an indication, that will be expanded on and link the seasons together?
Verdict: Very Interesting

5. Post-Op

The surgeon from hell! This has traits of season 2’s ‘Asylum’. It has an incredibly dark, and sinister feeling to it. Something in a hospital, with a ‘Doctor Death’ type figure, could be pretty awesome!
Verdict: Interesting

6. Descent

The People Under The Stairs!!! EEK!!! If you’ve seen the film, you’ll know what I mean. The basement is dark and full of mystery… whats evil lurks down there? If a season of AHS was done along the lines of the ‘People Under The Stairs’ film, that would be some dark, evil television indeed.
Verdict: Amazing

7. The Mist

I’m in love this teaser trailer. There’s nothing complicated about it. There’s no metaphor, there is no hidden meaning. What creatures are lurk in the mist? You know somethings coming out of it, but you don’t know what it is. Its what you don’t see that is the most terrifying, and that’s a really clever way way of going about things.
If ‘The Mist’ was to be the theme of season 6, I would be a very happy man.  This has the potential to be incredible.
Verdict: In Love

8. Hang Tight

Chains and meat hooks. Perhaps a torture room that James Patrick March himself would revel in. Though I have to say, an episode with a torture room would be awesome, but I don’t see it being a theme for a whole season of AHS.
Verdict: Rubbish

9. The Shadow

‘The Shadow’ is another teaser trailer, that I think has real potential to be turned into a full season. This one seems to me, to have the feeling of the old silent films, like Nosferatu for example. There is lots of different angles that can be explored here, and would give the writers, almost a whole new universe to work in, and be creative. And again, this is another example of, its what you don’t see that, that gives you the fear. For something to give you real fear and terror, sometimes, the image or the story doesn’t have to shown and explained. Its the story, or the picture that is created in your mind, that can really bring the horror to life. I think this could be used in that way.
Verdict: In Love

10. Wind Chimes

This is a bit of a dud really. An evil dentist?  Maybe! This is another one that wouldn’t have a season based around it. The teaser definitely has shock value. We’ve all had the dream about our teeth being pulled out.
Verdict: Rubbish
